All the rooms have king-sized beds because Desire resorts are built for couples. The rooms have air conditioning which is nice and poor lighting, which isn’t nice. The walk-in showers are big enough for two or more people to enjoy if things get too hot while watching the complimentary erotic TV channels. There are other amenities like the in-room safe, bathrobes, coffee maker, hairdryer, and more. The resort offers free wifi. It is a surprisingly decent internet connection, so you can check email or touch in with your office if something pops up. Most guests stay off the wifi because this resort is meant for pleasure and not for working.
Our favorite amenity is the complimentary mini bar fridge in every guest room. That’s right; the resort keeps your own personal fridge stocked with complimentary water, soda and beer during your entire stay. If you are waiting for your partner to finish getting ready, you can reach over and enjoy a cool beer while you watch cable TV or erotic channels. When you wake up the next morning after a long day of sun & fun, you can reach out for a chilled bottle of water to refresh yourself.
You might want to avoid downstairs rooms near popular spots like the pool as they can be a little bit noisier during the day though they also put you closer to the action. Don’t plan on a room upgrade when you arrive because Desire usually doesn’t have spare rooms. They often are booked near capacity, which is why they are working on opening a third resort. If you want a nicer room, it is safest to book it early.
Speaking of safety, you can leave most things lying around, and it will be safe – though the staff will likely ask you to be more careful with your valuables. Many of the staff have been working at Desire for over ten years and don’t want to risk losing their jobs. Many of the guests are too consumed with a passion to care about your stuff. Nevertheless, you should be smart and lock up your valuables—no need for unnecessary risks.
Garden View Rooms
The most affordable rooms are the garden view rooms available only at Riviera Maya. Size and layout vary by building. The garden view rooms are fine and popular since guests often spend very little time in their rooms. The garden rooms are a bit plain, but what more than a king-size bed and large walk-in shower do you need? Many people choose this option so they can afford to stay even longer.
Superior Garden View Rooms
The superior garden view rooms have an extra 160 sq feet of space with a couch and lounge chair for you to relax or entertain new friends in your room.
Ocean View Rooms
The next level up is the ocean view room. These are just like the garden room, but they have views of the Gulf of Mexico. You can sip coffee with your special someone on your balcony as you enjoy a beautiful & romantic view.
Pearl is a more intimate resort. It has fewer rooms and a bit larger property, so all rooms have ocean views.
Jacuzzi Suites
If you want to upgrade your sensual experience, Desire offers Jacuzzi suites. These suites come with their own four-person Jacuzzi indoor tub surrounded by mirrors. These Kama Sutra-inspired rooms are decorated in chocolate & gold tones for a very sensual feel.
Passion Villa Suites
For an incredible experience, try the Passion Suites. These super spacious suites are designed for luxurious entertainment. Besides your oversized Sala entertaining space or your private oceanfront terrace, it also has an oversized indoor Jacuzzi. You don’t even have to leave the room because the Passion suites come with personal butler service, in-room breakfast, afternoon hors d’oeuvres, and expanded minibar with your own private supply of liquor. If you leave your room and make new friends, you can host private parties in your villa.
Desire Villa Suites
The ultimate experience is with the Desire Suites. These two-story gems have their own private swim-up pool, Bali beach bed, and your own private butler. Couples who book the Desire Suites are treated like visiting sex gods & goddesses. There is Moet champagne waiting for you at your VIP check-in to help you enjoy your own tantric sex amenities. Each Desire Suite is spacious enough to include a six-person dining table in addition to an oversized Sala entertaining room with its own stripper pole. Of course, this option costs a royal ransom. If you can afford this ultra room, let us know because we love fabulously wealthy friends!
Once you figure out which room type is the right match for you, you might be wondering which specific room is best. That depends on what you want.
The resort is not huge so walking between the Villas is easy. The partying often goes late into the night, but the loud music is kept inside the nightclub.
If you want a more relaxing vacation, then you should request a room away from the nightclub, pool & Jacuzzi lounge, which can be busy & noisy well past midnight. The downside is you will have to walk an extra minute to get to your room. It really is that small & intimate of a resort.
If you don’t mind crowd noise and don’t want to walk too much, stay closer to the lobby & nightclub.
If you want to be closest to the most action with no walking, ask to be next to the famous Jacuzzi lounge or next to the pool.
